Internet net worker, Cisco Systems and hotel, office, commercial and residential center Citystars Heliopolis Cairo announced that the 750,000-square-meter project will be serviced by the largest end-to-end LAN and IP telephony network in the Middle East.

Cisco, working with local partner Tri-Tech Egypt, provided Citystars a campus infrastructure that supports Cisco's AVVID architecture for voice, video and integrated data. The solution includes a Local Area Network infrastructure throughout the complex providing Ethernet ports that allow Internet browsing at speeds up to 100 times faster than a dial-up connection, an IP Telephony environment and an interconnection between the Property Management System and Call Manager, Cisco's software PBX, for efficient delivery of hotel, hospitality and guest services.

A combination of business travelers, tourists and local residents will live, work and shop in a unique setting served by the latest telecommunications and state-of-the-art multimedia services. Citystars houses four hotels, a conference center, residential apartments, office space and a shopping and entertainment complex, on an 115,000-square-meter superb location in Cairo's Heliopolis district.

Citystar's network includes a LAN solution based on Catalyst 6,500 and Catalyst 3500 for 24,000 desktop connections, while the IP telephony solution is based on Call Manager MCS 7835 and IP phones for more than 14,000 users. Both platforms are scalable and reliable and provide the infrastructure on which other IP based applications and services can be deployed quickly with minimum disruption to the network.

Opening in June 2003, Citystars Heliopolis Cairo is the largest and first integrated project of its kind in the Middle East and Europe; combining office, retail and entertainment, hotel, residential and medical. — (menareport.com)
