Saudi Arabia’s Al-Watania Poultry has earned the Safe Quality Food (SQF) 2000 Certification after meeting the control measures of a system called Hazards Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).
Originally created in 1969, HACCP was developed by NASA scientists to prevent astronauts suffering food poisoning in space. The program assesses potential food hazards, identifies where these hazards may occur, highlights the stages in food production that are vital for food safety and helps implement effective controls with suitable monitoring procedures. The HACCP system is now mandated by most US and European food control authorities.
To ensure product quality and conformity with Islamic Sharia'a laws, Al-Watania has invested heavily in transforming its production plant in Al-Qassim into a fully integrated facility. The company enjoys a 40 percent market share in Saudi Arabia, producing 500,000 chickens and one million eggs per day. Al-Watania chickens are naturally fed and halal slaughtered according to the Islamic Sharia'a laws. — (menareport.com)
