Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar presents ‘Senior Showcase’, a display of the emerging talents of graduating design students on Sunday, 1 May, 2011 with a reception at 6:00PM at the Saffron Hall at VCUQatar. The event is open to the public.

The aim behind Senior Showcase is to give potential employers and visitors a chance to see the final thesis and other research projects of Fashion, Graphic and Interior Design students. Potential employers based in Qatar and the surrounding region get to meet Qatar’s young graduating designers who will be presenting their final design portfolios and also learn about how design can help their business. Company representatives looking for new talent will have the opportunity to meet students and discuss their work. Senior students’ work will be on display in the Saffron Hall until 20 August 2011.

Senior Showcase is held in conjunction with the much anticipated Senior Exhibition that will also run until 20 August 2011 at the Gallery at VCUQatar. This juried exhibition showcases the final thesis projects plus a selection of the best  work of VCUQatar senior students from the Fashion, Interior and Graphic Design departments while highlighting their creativity and innovation. The range of media used by students includes illustration, photography, typography and publication.

“This year The Gallery has worked in tandem with the VCUQatar Career Development Committee to create a Senior Showcase of the best work of graduating seniors,” said Jochen Sokoly, gallery director at VCUQatar. “The works on view comprise couture fashion, furniture, book projects, graphics, and interior designs that reflect the creativity and ingenuity of our seniors and their hard work as students. We are very proud of them and wish them all success for their future.” he added.

“We are proud to feature the entire graduating class of 2011, 49 students from all three majors - Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design - for the first time in a single exhibition. It is truly a showcase of the rich and diverse talent that is emerging from VCUQatar this year,” said Matt Woolman, director of Design Entrepreneurship and Industry Affiliations.

Senior Showcase on 1 May is open from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a reception at 6:00 PM. Both Senior Showcase and Senior Exhibition will feature senior student work in the Saffron Hall and Gallery at VCUQatar until 20 August, 2011. The event is open to the public.
