University of Dubai students attend HSBA International Week 2011 in Germany

Ten students from the University of Dubai (UD), a prestigious university in the UAE established by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have represented the institution at the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) International Week 2011 held in Hamburg, Germany recently.

For the 7th time in a row HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration organized its Annual International Week as a platform for the exchange of ideas and the establishment of stronger ties with its international partner universities. This year’s theme, “Hamburg as Green Capital 2011: Reconciling Economic and Ecological Objectives” included lectures on topics like global business, business culture in different European countries, agricultural fuel, clean energy, sustainability and other environmental issues.

The participating institutions included Andrassy University and Budapest Business School from Hungary; DePaul University from Chicago, USA; Edinburgh Napier University from UK; Haaga-Helia University from Finland; Higher School of Economics St. Petersburg from Russia and UD.

The program included visits by the students to multinational and high profile companies such as Hapag-Lloyd AG, Haffencity, Aurubis AG and Hamburger Hochbahn AG where they learned the different aspects of the business and had an on-site plant and firm visits. The students participated actively in the Q & A sessions during these companies’ trips.

The HSBA’ program also gave the students the opportunity to introduce UD to other participants through a presentation which highlighted the UD international Accreditations (AACSB and ABET) and programs being offered at the institution. They also showed a 10-minute clip on Dubai that was played during the home institutions’ presentations’ session. The clip gave the conference attendees an idea about Dubai.

Ms. Amina El Marzak, Director, Student and Alumni Affairs at UD who accompanied the students for this educational trip to Hamburg said: “We are extremely honoured to be invited to the seventh HSBA’s International Week. The event had given our students the needed exposure to international business and the opportunity to mingle with students from other culture. By having first-hand information about business, it would help them enhance their career prospects and broaden their international network. The programs and activities presented during the event provided an ideal platform for the students to discover their potential and increase their chances for international internships.
