The high-tech beast is actually a hyper-realistic flying mechanical model called "Syrax," designed to replicate the iconic dragon from HBO's successful series House of the Dragon.
The dragon, weighing roughly 13 kilos and with a wingspan of 8 meters, was created by the legendary German engineering company Airstage, a team noted for making light-weight aerial animatronics. Engineers made the whole frame from ultra-light carbon fiber and tough custom foam to give it strength but also let it to fly easily.
The creature’s lifelike movement is powered by 23 articulated moving elements that control its wings, tail and rudders. The mechanical beast was powered by micro-propellers concealed within its legs. Professional pilot Dennis Gutowski manned the machine remotely from the ground, effortlessly gliding through the Glasgow sky at speeds of up to 35 km/h.
