TMC develops navigation system compatible with vehicle - infrastructure cooperative safety system

In its continuous efforts to reduce traffic accidents through the use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) recently developed an onboard navigation system compatible with the vehicle-infrastructure cooperative Driving Safety Support System (DSSS), to be launched by the Japanese National Police Agency in Japan.
TMC’s new innovation is considered another step by TMC in its ongoing efforts in safety technology and vehicle development, which falls under its Integrated Safety Management Concept. In addition to developing individual onboard safety system and relevant devices, TMC has been consistent in its promotion of developed vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems that allow information exchanges amid different vehicles and the traffic infrastructure.
The new system offers timely audio and visual warnings to the driver and consists of five main features; the “Red light” warning, “Stop sign” warning, “Stationary vehicle ahead” notification, “Blind corner vehicle presence” notification, and the “Green light” advance notification.
As part of its ongoing commitment to manufacturing safety vehicles, TMC aspires to contribute to the reduction of traffic injuries and fatalities, which is perceived to be any mobile society’s aspiration. TMC has been continually contributing to the improvement of traffic safety through carrying various activities that are based on developing safe motor vehicles, raising public awareness on traffic safety, and involvement in traffic-environment development.
