West Ham have been successful in overturning Sofiane Feghouli’s proposed three-match suspension.

The attacking midfielder was controversially sent off in the early stages of their midweek encounter against Manchester United, when he went in for a challenge with Red Devils defender Phil Jones.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic claimed that the England defender “made a meal” of the tackle following his side’s 2-1 defeat, and the red card had been expected to keep the Algeria international out of upcoming encounters against Manchester City in the FA Cup, as well as Premier League clashes versus Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough.

However, vice-chairman Karren Brady took to Twitter to report the club's success in their appeal against the punishment, with the FA confirming the news soon after.

The FA statement read: "Sofiane Feghouli has had his claim of wrongful dismissal upheld today [Wednesday 4 January 2017] following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

"The West Ham United player was sent off for serious foul play during the game against Manchester United on Monday 2 January 2017. The standard three-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect."

As a result, the 27-year-old former Valencia player can turn out for his side in the FA Cup this coming weekend.

Feghouli has featured 14 times for West Ham since arriving from Spain in the summer, but has scored only one goal and created one other.
