Oman's Fatma Al Nabhani advances to second round of French ITF event

Oman's top seeded player Fatma al Nabhani began her campaign in the ITF US$10,000 tennis tournament in style when she breezed past Italian qualifier Marianna Natali 7-6, 6-0 in the French city of Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc on Tuesday.

The Omani now will take on another qualifier, Chiara Frapolli of Switzerland, on Wednesday for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Fatma is seeded fourth in the doubles event, where she is paired with local girl Estella Cascino.

The duo had a first-round bye and will clash with Carla Lucera of Argentina and Chiara Quattrone of Italy in the quarterfinals.

Oman teams for Arab tournaments named

Oman's U11 and U12 players will take part in the Arab Championship, which will be held in Cairo, Egypt from July 27-August 5. The team departed for a camp in Cairo on Tuesday and will train there from July 20-26. Saeed al Barmani will accompany the team as head of the delegation.

Also, Oman's U13 and U14 teams are taking part in an Arab championship in Tunis, Tunisia from August 7-19. Moosa al Hinai wil accompanied the Omani contingent as head of the delegation. The team will also camp in Tunisia from July 24-August 6.

Teams for Cairo: Boys: Marwan al Khanjari (U12), Abdullah al Hashmi (U12), Ali al Busaidi (U11), Tawaad al Riyami (U11).

Girls: Tanaal al Riyami (U12), Safana al Riyami (U12) and Sahar al Bakri (U11); coach: Suleiman al Rawahi; administrator: Mohammed al Daheri.

Team for Tunis: Boys: Munir al Rawahi (U13, U14), Azzan al Hajri (U13, U14) and Abdullah al Raisi (U14); coach: Nabeel Dob; administrator: Othman al Raisi.
