A troubling statistic about Alexander Isak has caught attention after Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League. This marks their second straight defeat under head coach Arne Slot.

Stuttering Start for the Premier League Champions

After starting the season with seven consecutive wins in all competitions, Liverpool’s momentum has come to a halt. They have faced two losses in a row, one against Crystal Palace in the league and the other against Galatasaray in Europe. These defeats have revealed weaknesses in both their attack and defense, despite significant spending on the squad over the summer.

The reigning Premier League champions were expected to outplay their opponents with their refreshed forward lineup, but they have looked vulnerable at the back and ineffective in front of goal.

Isak’s Underwhelming Cameo

Liverpool’s record signing Isak, who made a £125 million move from Newcastle on deadline day, has not yet proven his worth. Against Galatasaray, he entered the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute but only recorded four touches and two completed passes in 36 minutes. This is a disappointing return for a player meant to lead the offense.

The Swedish striker is still regaining his fitness, but these numbers indicate he is not ready to take Hugo Ekitike’s spot as Slot’s top choice up front.

Slot Searching for Solutions

What’s perhaps most worrying is that Slot seems uncertain about his best lineup. Tactical changes, like playing Jeremie Frimpong on the right wing and Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back, have only added to the sense of disorganization in Istanbul.

While it’s too soon to fully panic, the warning signs are evident. Unless Liverpool finds their rhythm again soon, their strong start to the season might fall apart.
