Ghana coach Avram Grant has ended his term after the Black Stars lost 1-0 to Burkina Fasso in the match for third place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The Israeli Grant made the announcement at the post-match news conference Sunday, saying he enjoyed the two years coaching the Black Stars.
"It has been a good two years with the Black Stars and getting the team to the final and semi-finals is a good thing," the former Chelsea manager Grant said.
"I am happy with the players who played for the first time," he said, referring to his decision to field fringe players in the last game, such as home-based goalkeeper Richard Ofori and new VfB Stuttgart signing Ebenezer Ofori.
Grant did not talk about his future after his contract expires at the end of February.
Ghana football legend Sammy Kuffour had earlier called for the coach's sacking after Cameroon stopped the team in the semi-finals, claiming Grant was the chief cause of the team's failure to end their trophy drought in Gabon.
"Grant must go. He spends all his time outside the country and does not develop any local talent. Ghana football is in crises and I'm worried about the youth," Kuffour said in show on Super Sport TV.
The Black Stars won the trophy 35 years ago, and their latest semi-final attempt is the sixth in a row, without getting a ticket to the final. Ghana's best result since the 1982 title was third place at home in 2008.
