Najeeb Chirakal of India, a former aide to disgraced ex-top official Mohamed bin Hammam, has been banned for life over bribery accusations by the ethics committee of football's ruling body, FIFA said on Friday.
FIFA said that Chirakal "had been involved in several unethical payments made on behalf of a third party to various football officials between 2009 and 2011, and had failed to collaborate in various ethics proceedings."
A statement said he violated seven articles of the FIFA ethics code, including bribery and corrupion.
Chirakal worked for Bin Hammam who at the time was Asian football chief and running for the FIFA presidency against then incumbent Joseph Blatter in 2011.
Qatar's Bin Hammam withdrew a few days ahead of the vote after corruption allegations and was banned for life in 2012. The ruling was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Bin Hammam was then blocked from returning over mismanagement at the Asian confederation AFC.
Chirakel is said to have been the middle man for football officials from Africa and Asia who were seeking cash payments from Bin Hammam.
He was suspended a first time by FIFA in 2012 for failing to cooperate with the FIFA probe into Bin Hammam.
