The USMNT eliminated from the tournament after losing 4-1 to Belgium today at the Seattle stadium in the USA, in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This was not the best match for the USA team since the start of the World Cup. They looked lost and helpless and were not dangerous, unlike how they were in previous matches. On the other hand, the Belgium team dealt with the match calmly and with focus, and successfully did what they came for.
Match Highlights and Goals
Belgium opened the scoring in the match in the 9th minute through Charles De Ketelaere. Then Malik Tillman came back and tied the score in the 31st minute from a free kick. But this did not last long, as De Ketelaere doubled the score in the 33rd minute, and the first half ended with his team leading 2-1.
The second half was not any better for the USA. Their goalkeeper came out to stop an attack, but he got confused and did not deal with it quickly. Therefore, Belgium player Hans Vanaken took the chance and shot the ball directly in the 57th minute to score the third goal. Romelu Lukaku finished it off in the second minute of added time 90+2 to end the result at 4-1.
With this result, Belgium goes through to the quarter-finals to face Spain next Friday at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, USA.
