Argentina successfully made a great comeback against Egypt today and got a well-deserved 3-2 win at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA, in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Egypt team tried and was strongly present. They took the lead and were close to achieving a historic milestone. However, Messi and his teammates had another opinion. With confidence and calmness, they came back from behind to continue their journey to defend the title they won in 2022 in Qatar.

Match Highlights and Goals

Egypt opened the scoring with a strong header by Yasser Ibrahim in the 15th minute. Argentina got a penalty kick in the 21st minute and had the chance to tie the score. But Messi stepped up to take it, and goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir shined and saved it. After that, he saved two dangerous chances and kept the score as it was until the end of the first half with his team leading.

In the second half, Egypt gained confidence and managed to extend the lead to 2-0 through Mostafa Ziko in the 67th minute after a great pass from Haitham Hassan.

Argentina did not stand still. They cut the lead in the 79th minute with a header by Cristian Romero. In the 83rd minute, Lionel Messi scored the tying goal. When the time reached the 92nd minute, Enzo Fernandez scored the winning goal with a great header.

With this result, the defending champions Argentina go through to the quarter-finals to face the winner of the Switzerland and Colombia match, which will be played later today.
