International Women's Day - the world celebrates this special occasion every year on 8th March. On this day people usually mark inspiring females who changed the world's direction in terms of calling for women's rights and equal life conditions for both males and females.
Its first the day was marked on February 28th. However, after women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted by the feminist movement in about 1967. The United Nations began celebrating the day in 1977.
Last year, the UN theme for International Women's Day was: 'I am Generation Equality': Realizing Women's Rights'. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, street marches occurred in London, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, Moscow and other European cities.
