World Refugee Day 2013 comes at a time when the number of refugees is at its highest globally in almost 20 years. According to a UN report, 7.6 million people were displaced in 2012.

A report issued from the office of the UN High commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) said that the Syrian crisis has been a “major new factor” in driving up refugee numbers.

“These truly are alarming numbers. They reflect individual suffering on a huge scale and they and they reflect the difficulties of the international community in preventing conflicts and promoting timely solutions for them,” said UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres.

According to the report, 55 percent of refugees come from five countries: Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan. But where are they now?
