Since Gaddafi left our screens to only enter the picture through mythical reports of his legendary flight details, The Colonel - considered now to be the most wanted man on earth - has reappeared to us only in the form of Kodak moments. We have been seeing the emergence of an intimate family portrait of his direct tribe, replete with special and ordinary dictator-family memories, from circumcision to wedding, baby pictures and snap-shots of lives lived in luxury.
On top of these leaked albums, courtesy of the rebels' plundering of the Colonel's Tripoli headquarters at compound, Baba al Azizia, we can now add to the public record some contemporary shots of the deserted family homes. A range of plush villas furnished as mansions and palaces of regime riches, uncovered.
In the knowledge that Libya earns a vast amount of wealth through oil export. it is quite apparent that Gaddafi siphoned off most of the revenue and riches on his family and tribe elites. Setting aside the decadent lives led by his offspring abroad, (in London, Saif al-Islam, besides donating alarge sum to the London School of Economics, had a Multi-Million Pound-worth mansion) we peer closer at the internal lavish lives in Libya where the population didn't touch this oil money, unless they had access to Gaddafi.
