France has recently unveiled new plans to halt violence against women by seeking to toughen up the law as concern grows over the number of "femicide" murders in the country.
French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, made the announcements on the UN-backed International Day for Eliminating Violence against Women after tens of thousands rallied across the country against the violence.
Philippe also expressed hope that the measures would prove an "electric shock", as well as may seek to broaden the definition of violence.
During the last 11 months, over 117 women were killed by their partner or ex-partner in France, according to a case-by-case study by AFP based on media reports.
