COMPUTEX 2024 day 1 recap, AI craze peaks in Taipei

ALBAWABA – Computex 2024 kicks off in Taipei with a new round of technological advancements displays, industry talks and as it comes with every tech conference in 2024, a lot of Artificial-Intelligence-focused announcements.

Located in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, COMPUTEX 2024 aims to bring over 1,500 exhibitors from all around the globe, delivering their innovations across 4,500 booths with an anticipated 50,000 guests locally and from abroad.

Day one of the conference started with the big players, showcasing keynotes from AMD, Nvidia and Qualcomm with a display of competitive new AI chips, alongside a slew of AI-powered products from ASUS, setting the tone for the rest of the event which runs until June 7.

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su took onto the stage for her keynote, introducing the next generation of Zen 5-based desktop and laptop processors. The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X processor for PCs will deliver 16 cores and 32 threads at 4.3 GHz and 5.7 GHz base and boost clocks, while the Ryzen AI 300 Series chips based on the Strix Point will deliver 50 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU) on Laptops, with Radeon Pro W7900 Dual Slot GPU, Zen 5 Epyc CPU, and the new MI325X AI accelerator stealing the show. Nvidia is also participating in the Copilot+ realm and will be certified in a future version of Windows 11 by using separate GPUs rather than NPUs built into processors. Additionally, the company revealed the future Project G-Assist, which will let users to utilize voice or text inputs to get AI support in finishing games, and announced the next SFF-Ready generation of GeForce RTX graphics cards. Qualcomm took it big at the stage with President and CEO Cristiano Amon announcing the delivery of its processors to PCs, teasing its Snapdragon X Elite chip for desktops and all-in-ones, while reaffirming its Snapdragon X Series of Arm processors for laptops spearheading Microsoft’s Copilot+ program. ASUS gave visitors their first hands-on preview of its Asus ROG Ally X, increasing battery life by twofold and adding a 1TB SSD and 24GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM compared to its predecessor, while also revealing the new Zephyrus G14 notebook starring an additional e-paper display on the lid, as well as the Zenbook S and TUF 14 laptops.
