Samsung Levant to sponsor Amman International Marathon for 2nd consecutive year

Samsung, the global leader in electronics and digital solutions, has renewed its agreement with the Amman International Marathon for the second consecutive year to become the official title sponsor of the region’s most popular marathon that will take place in Amman in October of this year.

The Samsung Amman International Marathon has grown to become one of the most successful sporting events to be held in Jordan since it was launched in 2009, attracting an increasing number of professional athletes and amateur participants from all over the world. In 2010 over 12,000 people from more than 70 countries took part in the event making it one of the largest marathons to be held in the Middle East region.

The sponsorship agreement was signed by Mr. Sang Suk Roh, president of Samsung Levant and H.E. Eng. Ammar Gharaybeh the Chairman of the Board of the Amman International Marathon at the premises of Greater Amman Municipality.

H.E. Eng. Ammar Gharaybeh said, “We are delighted to sign this agreement with Samsung Levant for the third consecutive year. Our partnership last year was a real success and we look forward to further building on that success this year.”

The Samsung Amman International Marathon 2011 aims to be both a sporting and social event providing entertainment for the people of Amman and using sports and various activities around the marathon to enhance social ties and community interaction.

Mr. Sang Suk Roh, President of Samsung Levant, added, “Samsung strives to support Jordanian entities and organizations that aim to make a positive contribution to the community. Through the sponsorship of the Amman International Marathon, we are aiming to encourage a healthier lifestyle in the Kingdom, in addition to helping promote Jordan as an international destination for world-class events, which will no doubt positively contribute to the Jordanian economy and tourism sector.”

The Samsung Amman International Marathon is a public sporting event that is open to participants above the age of 6 from all over the world. This year’s Marathon will consist of two separate races including the 42.195 km Marathon and the Fun marathon which is 10 km long. The Marathon is also one of the few major sporting events to take place in the region that provides people with special needs with an opportunity to demonstrate their sporting prowess.

The Marathon, which has grown in size, stature and popularity since it was launched, has also proven to be an ideal opportunity for participants to raise funds for charitable causes in the Kingdom and region, with individual participants attracting sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues to donate to a range of charities and NGOs.
