Samsung creates Device Solutions, appoints executives

Samsung today announced the creation of Device Solutions at Samsung Electronics, a new organization that will oversee the company’s memory chip, system LSI and LCD businesses, and named Oh-Hyun Kwon, current President of Semiconductor Business, president of the newly created organization. 

The creation of Device Solutions is aimed at enhancing cooperation and generating synergy in Samsung’s component businesses in technology development, production, procurement and client management. 

Through close collaboration and coordination among the memory chip, system LSI and LCD businesses, as well as the mobile display making affiliate Samsung Mobile Display, the new system will help enhance competitiveness throughout Samsung’s memory and display segments. 

The changes will also help Samsung’s component businesses further strengthen their independence and improve relationships with their global clients. 

In his new position, President Kwon will also assume the role of the head of LCD Business at Samsung Electronics. Wonkie Chang, current President of LCD Business, is named advisor to CEO to assist production and facility innovation of Device Solutions. 

Jong-Kyun Shin, President at Mobile Communications Business of Samsung Electronics, will assume the additional role of being responsible for the company’s Digital Imaging Business. The appointment will help the digital camera business improve its competitiveness. 

Separately, Samsung also announced In-Hee Sung, President of Samsung Human Resources Development Center, was named CEO of Samsung Fine Chemicals Co. Ltd. CEO Sung, a talent management expert who also previously worked at Samsung Electronics’ human resources department, will help Samsung Fine Chemicals expand in electronic and environment-friendly materials business by recruiting and cultivating new talents. 

Key details on the executive appointments following today’s announcement : 

Oh-Hyun Kwon, President of Semiconductor Business of Samsung Electronics, was named president of the newly created Device Solutions and will also head LCD Business of Samsung Electronics.

In-Hee Sung, President of Samsung Human Resources Development Center, was named CEO of Samsung Fine Chemicals. 

President Jong-Kyun Shin will oversee Digital Imaging Business of Samsung Electronics while continuing his current role as the head of Mobile Communications Business. 

Myoung-sup Han, Senior Vice President in PDP business, will head Digital Imaging Business of Samsung Electronics.
