The Qtel Group recently held a special symposium in Qatar that included thought-leaders from Research In Motion (RIM) and representatives from companies across the Qtel Group including Nawras from Oman, Asiacell from Iraq, Wataniya from Kuwait and Indosat from Indonesia, as well as other Qtel Group partners.

The meeting, the first best-practice symposium of its kind held in the region, addressed a range of new initiatives and examined the potential for further growth in the dynamic Middle Eastern, North African and Asian markets in which the Qtel Group operates. Deemed a success by all who attended, the Qtel group will build on this by hosting a second event in Indonesia later in 2011.

One of the key strategies discussed was the development of the Qtel Group’s lead in delivering smartphone solutions across its diverse range of emerging markets, as the Group continues to invest in strategic alliances and new technology to deliver a higher level of innovation for its customers.

Companies within the Qtel Group have demonstrated robust capabilities in delivering smartphone solutions to customers around the world. In Indonesia, which has approximately 1 million BlackBerry customers and is the world’s biggest user of BBM (BlackBerry Messaging), Indosat has emerged as one of the most innovative and popular providers, delivering a wide range of packages and services to suit all BlackBerry customers.

Wataniya has also delivered strong growth in Kuwait; while Asiacell is primed to launch the BlackBerry service in Iraq in the coming months. In Qatar, Qtel was the first company to introduce the BlackBerry service and continues to expand the range of options available to its customers, including prepaid services and enterprise solutions.

To support the Qtel Group’s ongoing growth in this area, the company has launched its own ‘BlackBerry Excellence Awards’, which aim to recognise achievements across the Group in supporting BlackBerry customers, and champion those teams who have been successful in encouraging development and new thinking.

The awards will include special recognition for enterprise-level initiatives and for retail promotions across the Qtel Group’s multiple markets.
