ALBAWABA - Many people took it to social media claiming that members of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) have killed Christian leader Youhanna Youssef Boutros.
According to netizens, Youhanna Youssef Boutros was the spiritual leader of Mar Elias Church in Tartous.
Many posted a photo of a Christian priest claiming that he was Youhanna Youssef Boutros along with captions that he was murdered at the hands of Syrian new government security officers.
A person said on X (formerly Twitter): "The t*rrorist gangs of Al-Jolani executed Youhanna Youssef Boutros, the spiritual father of the Church of Mar Elias in Tartous."
Was Syrian Christian Leader Youhanna Boutros killed?
Syrian fact-checking news outlet Takkad confirmed that the circulating rumor is fake and has nothing to do with the truth.
It explained: "The circulating claim that Syrian state elements executed a Christian priest named Youhanna Youssef Boutros, described as the spiritual father of Mar Elias Church in Tartous, is fabricated."
Takkad added: "The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Tartous denied that it had any priest with that name, and confirmed that the news was false."
