ALBAWABA - For nearly a week, Albanians have been protesting in the capital, Tirana, to rally against a luxury beach resort by a company for Trump's daughter, Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner.

Thousands of people gathered Saturday, and hundreds of others stood up in a protected nature reserve on Albania's coast against Kushner-Trump resort plans to build a resort on an abandoned island.

Massive protests were held for nearly 7 days to protest the resort, whose cost is estimated to be between $1.5 billion and $4.6 billion, linked to U.S. President Donald Trump's daughter and her husband.

The protests have been dubbed the "flamingo revolution" by civil society and international media, as the area is an important habitat for the pink birds.

Was Iran behind protests against Kushner-Trump resort in Albania?

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama commented on the massive rallies and the project in an interview with POLITICO, saying the protests are being incited by Donald Trump's critics, insisting the resort won't pose a risk to flamingos and other wildlife.

Albanian Prime Minister claimed that Iran was involved in a "hybrid war" of disinformation over the project, accusing it of inciting the protests and pushing people against the Trump family resort in Albania over the war against it.

Albania has previously been a victim of Tehran's cyberattacks in retaliation for providing refuge to the Iranian opposition, the PM said.

Rama insisted that the project will work on attracting foreign investment to enhance the country's tourism industry.

Earlier, reports revealed that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are investing $1.4 billion to develop luxury resorts in Albania.

Their primary project is on Sazan, a small island off the coast of Albania, while another related development is planned near the protected Narta Lagoon on the country's southern coast.

Ivanka Trump said about the project, "I'm working with my husband; we have this 1,400-acre island in the Mediterranean, and we're bringing in the best architects and the best brands," she added, "It's going to be extraordinary."
