ALBAWABA - A video showing a confrontation over a headscarf between an Iranian cleric and a woman at Mehrabad Airport in the Iranian capital of Tehran took the internet by storm.
In the footage, a cleric was seen shouting at an Iranian woman for not wearing her hijab, which is considered unacceptable under the Iranian dress code rule.
The clip then displayed the woman forcibly removing the Iranian cleric's Turban and transforming it into a hijab as she was seen covering her hair and saying "So you have honor now?”
Iran International reported the Iranian woman then started to look for her husband, calling his name and saying, "What did you do to my husband?"
On the other hand, a pro-Iranian government media Mashregh News reported the video and said that the dispute didn't happen over the woman's hijab and claimed that the Iranian female has "psychological problems."
However, there's no confirmation of the time and date when the video was captured.
Masih Alinejad, an Iranian-American prominent in women's rights, posted the clip and wrote: "For years, clerics have claimed their turbans and robes are sacred and untouchable, but this woman’s act of protest shattered that myth. Iranian women are exhausted and enraged by gender apartheid."
Women in Iran are facing strict regulations under the Iranian government as they are forced to wear headscarves and a special government force called "morality police" was designed to enforce compulsory hijab rule and dress code.
Women, in contrast, have been uprising against the country's harsh rules against women especially following the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, in the custody of the morality police after she was beaten up back in 2022.
On Sept. 13, 2022, morality police held Mahsa Amini for wearing her hijab improbably in Tehran, she was beaten up, fell into a coma and died after 3 days on Sept. 16, 2022, triggering nationwide protests.
