ALBAWABA - A Muslim Albanian religious leader made an unexpected suggestion yesterday igniting wide debate on social media, he said that he wanted to form a Vatican-like state for Muslims.

Edmond Brahimaj, commonly known as Baba Mondi, wants to create a Vatican-like state for his Bektashi faith.

He suggested that the state would be formed in a tiny place that would serve as a model for "love and tolerance".

Not only Baba Mondi, the Albanian Prime Minister uncovered his plans last year to establish a sovereign Muslim smaller state within the country's borders. "This state will have neither police, nor army, nor taxes; it will be spiritual," Baba Mondi said.

The Albanian religious leader said the goal of this state "will be the organisation and defence of the Bektashis around the world."

He said the new state would be governed by the Sufi religious leaders with roughly 100,000 members.
