ALBAWABA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acted quickly in response to the recent UN ruling, calling off the Israeli delegation's planned trip to the US.

This action is in response to the US choosing not to exercise its veto power on a UN Security Council resolution that called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Following the abstention at the UN Security Council, Netanyahu acknowledged that the visit—which had been requested by US President Joe Biden to discuss extending humanitarian aid to Gaza and investigating potential alternatives to a planned military action in Rafah—had been canceled.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision disappointed US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby, saying, "We had hoped for their presence in Washington, DC, to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on feasible alternatives for Rafah."

Prior to the vote, Netanyahu had hinted that the visit might be canceled if the US did not reject the UN resolution requesting a truce in Gaza, without attaching the resolution to the release of captives.

This development highlights the complexities and tensions underlying the Israeli-Palestinian issue, wherein diplomatic manoeuvres have a pivotal part in determining the course of events.
