ALBAWABA - Following the death of a 13-year-old kid who was chasing after police in Utica, New York, and brandishing a fictitious pistol, the public's indignation has escalated.

Reports from US media outlets state that the event happened on June 28 in the evening. Two kids were detained by police as part of an investigation into an armed robbery. The two 13-year-olds were identified by the authorities as matching the descriptions of suspects who had been engaged in a robbery in the same location the night before.

One of the lads, named as Nyah Mway, is seen running away from the police as they try to conduct a search in a video that they have published. Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said at a news conference that Mway had waved a pistol at the police as he fled. An cop fired his pistol during the subsequent scuffle on the ground, striking Mway in the chest.

Mway, a member of the Karen minority who emigrated to the US with his family after being born in Myanmar, was brought to a hospital and ultimately declared dead.

According to investigations, the pistol Mway was carrying was a fake and was not capable of firing actual rounds. When Mway was shot, Officer Patrick Husnay said he thought the pistol was genuine.

There has been a great deal of anger in Utica and on social media after the incident. At the hospital where Mway was treated, a large crowd gathered, yelling anti-police chants and demonstrating their displeasure with the department.

Roughly one hundred individuals demonstrated in front of the Utica police station, calling for justice.

An internal inquiry into the event has been announced by the Utica Police Department. The Attorney General's Office of New York also affirmed that it will carry out its own inquiry.
