Mahsa Amini was arrested and beaten up by the police on Sept. 13 and died after three days.

ALBAWABA - Iranian-Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, 22, who became an icon of the Iranian protests and women's rights, was beaten up by Iran's morality police and fell into a coma. She was transferred to a hospital in Tehran, but she died after three days, her family announced in 2022.

Iranian morality police, which work to ensure rules are implemented, arrested Mahsa Amini in the capital Tehran on Sept. 13 for wearing her hijab "improperly".

It is worth mentioning that following the death of Mahsa Amini, nationwide protests erupted in Iran as women cut their hair and burnt hijabs to decry the harsh rule imposed on women. "زن.زندكي.ازدى" (which means Women. Life. Freedom) was the slogan of the 2022 protests.

Mahsa Amini protests echoed worldwide including in Canada, the US, Syria and Turkey as many joined demonstrations against Iranian strict rules against women and the compulsory hijab.

Mahsa Amini was born September 21, 1999, in Saqqez City in Iran and she died at Kasra Hospital, Tehran on sept. 16, 2022. Mahsa Amini protests

Female prisoners start hunger strike for Mahsa Amini

Dozens of Iranian female prisoners announced launching a hunger strike on the second anniversary of the death of Iranian activist Mahsa Amini, who died on Sept. 16, 2022.

At least 34 prisoners in Evin Prison on Sunday wanted to mark two years since Iran's nationwide protests that erupted against the country's strict rules on women following the death of Mahsa Amini, the foundation of Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi revealed.

"Today, on September 15, 2024, 34 female political prisoners in Evin Prison have gone on a hunger strike in commemoration of the second anniversary of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement and the killing of Mahsa (Jina) Amini," the foundation stated.

The prisoners started a hunger strike "in solidarity with the protesting people of Iran, against the government’s oppressive policies," the foundation further noted.
