ALBAWABA - Amid the corruption raids carried out by Iraqi special forces on Saturday and Sunday nights, piles of money and gold were seized from inside the house of an Iraqi member of parliament.
Around 20,000,000 Iraqi dinar (over $15,000,000) were found inside the house of the pro-Iranian member of parliament Alia Nassif on Sunday night.
Iraqi police arrested the pro-Iranian politician Alia Nassif and posted images of the dollars found at her place in Baghdad.
The official Iraqi News Agency reported that 47 officials, including at least 12 members of parliament and political figures, were arrested between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi stated that "the government will continue its efforts to combat corruption and recover public funds," emphasizing that there will be no leniency in his responsibility "to protect the interests of the Iraqi people."
During a cabinet meeting early Monday morning, al-Zaidi said, "The situation has become untenable."
