ALBAWABA - In an unusual incident in Nebraska, a dog accidentally shot a woman, injuring her arm.

Scottsblove police explained that the incident occurred Saturday evening, May 23, at a convenience store, when a German Shepherd was inside its owner's parked car. The dog moved from side to side in the back seat, causing a shotgun loaded with live ammunition inside the vehicle to discharge.

The projectile struck a woman's car, which was stopped a few meters away at a traffic light.

A small fragment struck the woman's upper right arm, as her hand was outside her car window. The car door bore the brunt of the blast. She was transported to the hospital, and her injuries were not life-threatening, according to police. The investigation is ongoing, and it is worth noting that driving with a loaded firearm in a vehicle is a violation in Nebraska.

This is not the first time a dog has been involved in a shooting recently. Last November, a 53-year-old man in Pennsylvania was shot in the back with a rifle he had left on his bed while cleaning it. He required surgery but survived.

In March 2025, a man in Tennessee suffered a cut to his left thigh when his dog jumped onto the bed and its paw became caught in the trigger guard. And in 2023, a man in Kansas was killed by a rifle accidentally discharged by his dog during a hunting trip.
