ALBAWABA - Palestinian journalist Motaz Azaiza sparked a buzz on social media after his latest meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

A photo combining Azaiza and Abbas was widely shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) igniting wide anger against the Palestinian photographer, who gained huge fame since the latest Israeli aggression on Gaza on Oct. 7.

Many pro-Palestinian activists lashed out at Motaz Azaiza for his meeting with the Palestinian President over the latter's stance on the Israeli war on Gaza, in which over 28,300 people have been killed.

An advocate took to X and wrote: "Do you see how you create fake heroes? He ignored all the actions of the authority and its treasonous performance during the war, and yet he could find in the war an opportunity to know how to reach Mahmoud Abbas."

During the meeting, Abbas told Azaiza that he did what he needed and that every Palestinian has his/her duty and everyone does what he/she has to do. "We serve our country and we serve Palestine, and in the end, Palestine wants to be a state and we are against those who say yes and I say no," he added.

Many other online users heavily backlashed Motaz Azaiza and accused him of "betraying" Palestine and the Palestinian cause after months of reporting and documenting Israeli "crimes" in Gaza.

Another wanted Azaiza: "This is not the path of resistance, Moataz." X user maintained that Motaz chose a new path full of betrayal, conspiracy, and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause by sitting, talking, and taking pictures with a traitor (in reference to Mahmoud Abbas) who sold the nation through shameful agreements like Oslo and absurd negotiations.

Gaza Health Ministry said in a statement on Monday that the death toll in the continued Israel airstrikes has jumped to 28,340, along with 67,984 others wounded.

"The Israeli occupation committed 19 massacres against families, leaving 164 martyrs and 200 injured during the past 24 hours," it reported. The statement comes amid intensive Israeli airstrikes on Rafah, the last safe zone for Gazans and in which about 1.4 million people were resettled to escape attacks.
