ALBAWABA - A video of an injured Palestinian being tied to the jeep hood of the Israeli army has gone viral causing a wave of anger and shock. However, the Israeli army released a statement 'to cover up' the incident.
Following the video, the U.S. State Department on Monday said it was "shocked" by the clip and urged a probe to hold those responsible to account, Reuters reported.
During a news brief, a reporter asked: "Isn't that basically the army using Palestinians as human shields?". US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said: "I will say we saw that video. It was shocking. The practice was absolutely unacceptable. Humans should never be used as human shields."
Israeli army: Injured Palestinian 'agreed' to be tied to jeep hood
After the wide denouncement of the clip of the injured Palestinian being strapped in front of an Israeli military jeep, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the army claimed that the wounded man 'agreed' to be transported on a jeep hood.
According to the army, which said to open an investigation into the video, the jeep traveled for 70 meters and the injured Palestinian man was handed over to the Red Crescent.
The injured Palestinian in the clip was identified as Mujahed Azmi, and he was tied during the Israeli army's raid in the occupied West Bank.
Mujahed Azmi's family said they had requested an ambulance after the Palestinian man was injured. Pro-Palestinian activists decried the incident and accused the Israeli army of using Palestinians as human shields.
