ALBAWABA - According to the Mizan News Agency, which is connected to the Iranian judiciary, Iran has put to death a man who was accused of killing a security officer during the protests that broke out across the country after the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022.
Mehran Bahramian, the man who was put to death, was accused of taking part in an attack on a security forces vehicle in the Semirom area of Isfahan Province that led to the death of security officer Mohsen Rezaei by gunfire in December 2022.
Mizan said that a number of other people were hurt in the event. At least 10 protesters have now been hanged in connection with the 2022 uprising, including Bahramian.
The protests started in the middle of September 2022 after Mahsa Amini (22) died while being held by Iran's morality police, who said she broke strict dress codes.
The slogan "Woman, Life, Freedom" brought people out to protest all over the country after her death.
More death sentences were given to families.
Human rights groups say that Mehran's brother, Fazel Bahramian, has also been given the death penalty for similar crimes. During the protests in 2022, security forces killed another brother, Murad Bahramian.
Worries About Forced Confessions
Human rights groups, like Amnesty International, spoke out against the execution and pointed out problems with Iran's judicial system.
According to Amnesty, Iranian courts often use forced confessions gotten through torture, long periods of solitary confinement, and threats against detainees and their families.
They say that these actions go against international human rights standards and raise serious questions about due process and fair trials.
