ALBAWABA - Pro-Palestinian activists have left their fingerprints during Black Friday in the United States. For the first time in ages, stores and shops are not super crowded with buyers.
Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving during which stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early. Usually, hundreds of people line in front of the stores before they even open to catch items.
However, this Black Friday, stores were almost empty after Pro-Palestinian activists called to boycott purchasing products for what's happening in Palestine and Gaza.
At least 14,000 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, in addition to the injury of over 35,000 others, according to data released by the government in Gaza.
A boycott campaign against all brands that are supporting the Israeli government has been launched since the Israeli aggressive assaults on Gaza. Activists have called to boycott major and international brands and products such as Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Nike, Addidas, and McDonald's.
Nevertheless, human rights advocates have taken social media platforms especially TikTok to share videos ahead of the start of Black Friday calling people not to go to stores or buy anything in support of Gaza.
On the other hand, despite calls to boycott Black Friday sales, e-commerce spending on Black Friday has jumped to a record $9.8 billion in the US, 7.5% from a year earlier, according to an Adobe Analytics report.
