A mother saw her two-year-old son “crushed” to death by a speeding car in a horrific accident just meters away from her in Bahrain.

Mohammed Farhan Abid, son of parents Mohammed Sajjad and Farzana Yasmin, was hit by the car in front of their home in Hoora on Monday.

He was playing with a kitten on Road 1855, Omar bin Abdul Aziz Avenue when his mother left him to go across the road to put up clothes for drying.

Chasing the kitten, Mohammed ran onto the road and was hit by the car.

The driver stopped when he heard people shouting and screaming and took Mohammed to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) in the same vehicle but he had already died.

The driver is in police custody.

Weeping bitterly, Yasmin said yesterday she still could not believe Mohammed was dead.

The couple also has a 13-year-old daughter, Samiya.

“When Samiya was six years old, I got pregnant but had an abortion. My husband could not bear it and had a heart attack,” she said.

“We then decided not to have another child. But when Samiya was 11, I wished for a son and Allah gave me this precious child...I can’t believe He took him back so early.”

Sajjad, a chef at the Gulf Hotel, has been living with his family in the house for more than 12 years.

“It is Allah’s will and we cannot question that,” he said. “We hope to get the papers cleared soon so that we can bury him in Bahrain.”

Samiya, a student at Ibn Al Haytham Islamic School, said she heard the news on her return from school.

“I saw a crowd in front of our house; some people asked me if I had heard about my brother.

“When I entered home I heard my mother screaming and then I came to know what happened.

Mohammed’s body is kept in the SMC morgue.
