ALBAWABA- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described his recent Oval Office meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as disappointing, stating on Tuesday that it "did not go the way it was supposed to."
Despite the setback, Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to negotiations and a peaceful resolution to the war, echoing a framework similar to the plan proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron following Sunday’s Western leaders’ summit.
Taking to X, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's desire for an end to the conflict, stating, "None of us wants an endless war. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts."
He outlined initial steps toward a peace deal, including an immediate prisoner exchange, a ceasefire on aerial and naval attacks—conditional on Russia reciprocating—and a swift progression toward a comprehensive agreement with U.S. involvement.
Zelensky also expressed gratitude for past American support, particularly Trump's decision to provide Ukraine with Javelin missiles, which he described as a turning point.
However, he lamented the outcome of his recent White House visit, noting that it led to the abrupt cancellation of a planned minerals and security agreement, which Ukraine remains ready to sign "at any time and in any convenient format."
Meanwhile, the Kremlin responded to Zelensky’s remarks on negotiations, calling them "good and positive," though it remains unclear whether Russia will engage in direct talks.
