Zayed Calls Mubarak to Discuss Afghanistan, Mideast Developments

In a telephone conversation Sunday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan discussed the latest developments of the ongoing military operations in Afghanistan, the daily Al Gomhuria reported. 

The two leaders also exchanged views on the link between the present conditions and peace in the Middle East in addition to the Arabs circumstances and a number of other issues of mutual interests. 

After a medical check-up in Geneva, Sheikh Zayed has been active in efforts to unify Arab stands regarding the crisis. 

He has met with Moroccan King Mohammad VI in Rabat, and in Geneva he met with British premier Tony Blair. 

Meanwhile, the Emirati official news agency (WAM) reported that the UAE has fulfilled its commitment to the Al Aqsa and Intifada funds set by the Cairo Arab Summit last year to support the Palestinians in their struggle against 34 years of Israeli occupation – Albawaba.com
