Armed gunmen from Yemen killed a Saudi security official Friday, according to Agence France Presse.
The Interior Ministry told AFP that armed assailants near a border post on the Yemen-Saudi border exchanged fire, leaving the security official along with three gunmen dead.
Security sources in Yemen confirmed a similar story earlier Friday, saying that a suspected al-Qaeda-linked militant attacked a military post on the country's order with Saudi that left at least one soldier dead and another wounded.
The remaining gunmen reportedly managed to flee the scene.
Yemen shares a border with Saudi Arabia from its Hadramawt province, which is considered a stronghold area of Yemen's al-Qaeda chapter AQAP.
Washington considers AQAP to be the "most dangerous" branch of the international jihadist network.
