An official source denied on Friday the news that Colonel Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh the Commander of the Republican Guard, and son of Yemen's president, was subject to an assassination bid and that he was moved to Jordan for treatment.

In a statement to Saba news agency, the source said the reports are "untrue and baseless". The source also blamed "malicious elements" for the invention of these rumors that are aimed at " distorting the image of

Yemen."

Late Thursday, UPI reported that a military commander shot and wounded the son before he was shot to death. The report added Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh was transported from Sanaa to a hospital in Amman, Jordan, by private jet.

According to sources, he was shot by a military commander, identified as Ali al-Marani, in the Suwad Haziz camp, 30 kilometers south of Sanaa.
