ALBAWABA - Several world leaders took to social media to mourn the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi along with several high-profile Iranian officials after their helicopter crashed in East Azerbaijan on their way back from an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Leaders of Jordan, Turkey, India, Venezuela, and other countries have expressed sadness and grief over the helicopter crash that killed Raisi along with his foreign minister Abdollahian later yesterday.
King Abdullah II of Jordan
In a post on X, King Abdullah II of Jordan extended his deepest condolences to the Iranian people on the loss of the nation's leader in a tragic helicopter crash.
"My deepest condolences to the brothers, leadership, government, and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the death of Brother President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Brother Hossein Amir-Abdollahian,"
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took to X to express sadness over the death of the Iranian president, extending his condolences to the Iranian people and the families of those killed in the crash.
"We are deeply saddened that the President of Iran, my brother Ibrahim Raisi, and his delegation had a helicopter accident. I would like to express that, as the Republic of Turkey, we are following the incident closely, in full contact and coordination with the Iranian authorities, and that we are ready to provide any necessary support".
Narendra Modi
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said that he is deeply saddened by "the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran".
Modi hailed efforts to strengthen the Indian-Iranian relations and his contributions to the international community.
"My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow" Modi wrote.
Shehbaz Sharif
Since the early hours of the crash, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had been following the updates surrounding the tragic incident, extending his wishes and prayers to the neighboring country as the world was anxiously waiting for news surrounding the fate of those on board the crashed helicopter.
"I along with the government and people of Pakistan extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the Iranian nation on this terrible loss," Sharif wrote. "The great Iranian nation will overcome this tragedy with customary courage," he added.
The country also announced a mourning period of 3 days following the tragic incident.
Mohamed Bin Zayed
President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed Bin Zayed, took to X to offer his condolences to neighboring Iran as the country goes through difficult times.
"I extend my deepest condolences to the Iranian government and people over the passing of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and those accompanying them following a tragic accident," Bin Zayed wrote.
"The UAE stands in solidarity with Iran at this difficult time" he added.
Nicolás Maduro
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro released a statement expressing his shock and sadness over the tragic crash that claimed the lives of the Iranian President and other Iranian officials.
Vladimir Putin
In an official letter, Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote: "As a true friend of Russia, he made an invaluable personal contribution to the development of good neighborly relations between our countries and made great efforts to bring them to the level of strategic partnership".
Abdel Fattah al-Burhan
Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan also released a statement offering his deepest condolences.
"While the President of the Sovereign Council extends his sincere condolences and sympathy to the friendly Iranian people, he prays to God Almighty that the President and his companions may have mercy on him and grant their families patience and solace, expressing the solidarity of the Government of Sudan and its people with the leadership and the Iranian people in this great loss" the statement reads.
