Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the ex-wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, is to be charged with fraud in a Pretoria court on Thursday, police said.
The charges relate to an alleged scam involving the use of Madikizela-Mandela's signature to obtain bank loans fraudulently.
"An arrangement was made with her attorney that she will report to the Special Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on October 18," Gauteng police spokeswoman Henriette Bester told AFP Monday.
Bester said Madikizela-Mandela -- the 65-year-old president of the African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) and member of parliament -- may be charged with up to 60 counts of fraud and the prosecutor may decide to press other charges.
Madikizela-Mandela is accused number two and her co-accused is Andy Moolman, currently in custody after handing himself over to police in June.
Moolman, a broker, allegedly obtained personal loans for fictitious ANCWL employees from Saambou Bank using Madikizela-Mandela's name and letterheads.
Madikizela-Mandela is expected to be charged and the case postponed to next month for her case to be heard in conjunction with Moolman's – Pretoria, (AFP)
