Dr. Hannoun will be assuming this role following a short transition period.

Commenting on the news, Dr. Nasser Marafih, Chairman of the wi-tribe Group and CEO of Qatar Telecom (Qtel), said: “We are very thankful for the leadership of Dr. Hannoun in helping establish and grow wi-tribe in Jordan. We now look forward to his experience and talent in helping lead Wataniya Palestine to the next level of serving customers in Palestine.”
Dr. Bassam joined wi-tribe in 2007 and was instrumental in setting up its infrastructure and launching the first wi-tribe operation, paving the way for a new lifestyle of independence in the broadband market in Jordan. Dr. Bassam commented “I was part of the launch team who set up wi-tribe’s first operation in Jordan and have witnessed its growth over the short span of time. This is due to the diligence of our staff and the gracious support of our shareholders, and of course because of the great people of Jordan.”
He continued, “wi-tribe Jordan has proven its capabilities of being the leading ISP in Jordan and I am confident this will continue in the future. We have over the past two years positioned wi-tribe in Jordan as the leading wireless broadband provider and launched wi-tribe globally.”
While a new CEO is being recruited for wi-tribe Jordan, Dr. Hannoun will continue in his current role as CEO, and following the transition, he will be appointed to the board of wi-tribe Jordan.
wi-tribe launched its first operation in Jordan back in June 2008 followed by Pakistan in 2009. wi-tribe will soon be launching in the Philippines.
