ALBAWABA- In a significant escalation of tensions between Canada and India, Indian authorities have expelled 41 Canadian diplomats, comprising two-thirds of the Canadian mission in India.

This move comes in response to the Canadian government's accusation of India's involvement in the assassination of a Canadian Sikh figure on Canadian soil.

The diplomatic row took a serious turn when Canada expelled a senior Indian diplomat, citing "credible allegations of a possible connection" between Indian government agents and the assassination.

In retaliation, the Indian government expelled a significant number of Canadian diplomats and strongly rebuked the accusations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on September 18.

The Indian foreign ministry has given Canada a week to repatriate two-thirds of its diplomats, reducing the number to 21 instead of 63.

While Trudeau declined to comment on the diplomatic expulsions, he emphasized his government's commitment to engaging responsibly and constructively with India, describing the situation as "extremely challenging.”
