LibanPost announced on Friday that it has teamed with Western Union to give people without bank accounts the option of paying their bills through Western Union’s electronic money-transfer network, the Daily Star reported Saturday.

Bill payers will be able to go to any post office and give payment instructions to be passed on to Western Union, the paper said.

LibanPost, according to the daily, hopes to start the service for telephone bills in January, and Western Union is negotiating with ministries over payments for electricity and water bills, and possibly taxes.

Western Union charges a variable commission on money transfers that can range from $20 for a $50 transfer, to $50 on a $1,000 transfer -- Albawaba.com
