ALBAWABA - According to Reuters, US officials announced on Saturday, March 2, 2024, that the United States has initiated its inaugural airdrop operation to provide aid to Gaza, employing three C-130 aircraft for the mission.

According to NBC, these aircraft distributed a total of 66 bundles and 38,000 meals over Gaza, as confirmed by an authoritative source.

Local reports indicate that the airdrop occurred over Rafah just moments ago, amidst growing calls for the opening of border crossings to facilitate the entry of hundreds of trucks carrying essential food and medical supplies for Gaza residents.

President Joe Biden disclosed on the evening of Friday, March 1, 2024, that the US military would carry out an airdrop of humanitarian assistance to Gaza in the forthcoming days, underscoring Washington's commitment to increasing aid delivery to the region.

In parallel, John Kirby, the spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House, declared on Friday that Israel is endorsing an American initiative to conduct airdrops of food and supplies to Gaza in the days ahead. Kirby added that Israel has prior experience with airdrop operations and supports the US efforts in this regard.

CNN quoted US officials saying that the American aid airdropped to Gaza consists of food rations and does not include water or medical supplies.
