ALBAWABA - U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan stated that their forces across the Red Sea will conduct more attacks if the Houthis continue to carry out their attacks on vessels crossing the Bab Al Mandab Strait.
In a televised interview, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the U.S. is ready to deal with anyone or anything that threatens the security of American forces in the Red Sea.
"We are prepared to deal with anything that any group or any country tries to come at us with," said Sullivan. Sullivan added that "Iran should expect a swift and forceful response if it, and not one of its proxies, chose to respond directly against the US".
Sullivan delivered his administration's warnings through several interviews after the U.S. and UK conducted strikes on 36 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday. Shortly after Israel launched its latest war on Gaza, Yemen's Houthis announced attacking any merchant and military vessels that cross the Red Sea heading towards Israel.
Sullivan's statements were followed by an announcement by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) that the "U.S. forces identified the missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined they presented an imminent threat to U.S. Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region"
"These actions will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant vessels" CENTCOM added.
Later on Saturday, the United States and the United Kingdom announced targeting 36 Houthi positions in Yemen across 13 different locations. In return for Saturday's attacks, the Houthi group vowed to strictly respond to the US and Britain's targeting of dozens of positions stating that the airstrikes will not deter their force.
The intensity of back-and-forth attacks between the U.S. and Houthis witnessed a steep rise after the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attack at the Tower 22 base in Jordan which resulted in the killing of 3 U.S. soldiers and dozens of others were injured.
