The U.S., Russia, and the United Nations will hold talks on Syria in Geneva on Friday, the UN said.

The discussions scheduled to take place in Geneva on Friday, between representatives of the U.S., the Russia and the UN "consist of preparatory talks for the next International Syria Support Group meeting", the UN said in a statement Thursday.

The talks are expected to concern the organization of the future Vienna meetings on Syria.

Top diplomats from the U.S., Turkey, Russia, and Saudi Arabia met in Vienna for a second time in October to discuss a way forward for a political transition.

The Vienna talks aimed of ending the conflict in Syria that has led to the deaths of more than 250,000 victims and displaced more than half of the population.
