ALBAWABA - US special forces carried out a campaign of arrests on Saturday night in the city of Palmyra in the eastern Homs countryside in Syria after the death of three American forces, according to a correspondent for The New Arab.
Three people were arrested by American forces. The correspondent also confirmed that US helicopters and planes flew intermittently in the skies of Palmyra and the eastern Homs countryside.
American armored vehicles patrolled the streets of Palmyra, while warplanes and reconnaissance and attack drones flew over the city.
U.S. warplanes flew intensively over Palmyra and the Syrian desert at a low altitude, dropping flares, without carrying out any ground bombing operations.
The Pentagon announced that two U.S. service members and an American civilian translator were killed in an attack by ISIS on Saturday in the Syrian city of Palmyra, where they were participating in counterterrorism operations. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell added that three others were wounded.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement on its X platform that a lone gunman was killed in an engagement.
CENTCOM wrote, "U.S. Personnel Ambushed by ISIS Gunman in Syria," adding, "On Dec. 13, two U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian were killed, and three service members were injured, as a result of an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria. The gunman was engaged and killed."
