Tunisian President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali met Saturday with US envoy Edward Walker to discuss follow-up initiatives after the failed Middle East peace talks at Camp David, reported AFP, quoting officials.
Walker said after the meeting that US President Bill Clinton had sent him urgently to discuss with Ben Ali the future of the Middle East peace process, said AFP.
The US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs called his talks with the Tunisian president "useful", adding that he thought it was still possible for the Israelis and the Palestinians to reach an accord based on the work done at Camp David.
Walker is on a tour of 14 Arab states, including North African countries of Algeria and Morocco in a US effort to keep Palestinian-Israeli negotiations on track to meet a September 13th deadline, said Reuters.
Walker had earlier visited Egypt and Saudi Arabia, said the agency - (Several Sources)
