Mexican police arrested a US couple from Oklahoma after they were found to be carrying strange tools, bomb-making literature and crystal myth drugs, local authorities said.

Daniel Kelly and Reamez Rick were arrested Saturday in Mexicali, on the border with California, "for their suspicious behavior," Baja California Attorney General Juan Manuel Salazar told reporters late Tuesday.

They were carrying "tools of unknown characteristics, an instruction manual on how to make bombs, a drug known as crystal (methadone) and paraphernalia for its use," Salazar said.

After consulting the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), it turned out that the couple had "criminal records" and were on a wanted list in the United States, the Mexican official said, adding that they were described as "highly dangerous."

US authorities have filed an extradition request for the couple, he added.

The couple is in the custody of the Mexican Attorney General's Office and will face charges in this country, Salazar said.

Salazar said the suspects could be implicated in the 1995 bombing of a US government building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people. Two men were convicted of the bombing; one was put to death, the other is serving a life sentence -- MEXICO (AFP)
